Yala National Park

Our luxurious jeep for the 12 hour tour of Yala National Park! Bench seats and bumpy terrain - need we say more? At this point we were surrounded by several families of bold monkeys trying to share our lunch.

A mother and baby elephant foraging in the forest.

Only 5% of male elephants have tusks. We spotted this one at the end of the day.

After an hour-and-a-half showdown between a water buffalo in the pond and this leopard high up in the tree, the water buffalo gave up and wandered away. The leopard nonchalantly strolled away.

Tissamaharamaya

The bread truck arrives at our 'home' in Tissa. The sweet buns are yummy.

A motorcycle made for 5! The two older children have just finished school for the day.

Our favourite place for breakfast 'egg hoppers'.

Our new friend takes us for a day's
walk through the rice fields that
surround Tissa.

Galle to Tangalle

At Ganesh Garden Beach Resort near Tangalle
80 turtles hatched at the beach under our hammock!

A short walk down the beach from our resort was a wonderful restaurant where we had great food and lots of laughs. Just in case you were wondering, we shared this food with 2 other friends!

The fishing harbour at Tangalle was full of fish and fishermen just in from weeks at sea in their brightly coloured boats.

Between Galle and Tangalle the fishermen sit on stilts above the shallow water to spy their fish. The stilt fishermen are at Ahangama.

Relaxing in the hammock at our Ganesh Garden Resort where our turtles hatched the next day.
